joking apart
i am always amazed at the traffic in delhi, i mean they come from every which way, man first time i drove there is was a case of change of underwear.
some how i aways thought that the drivers tend to live and let live. But it would seem that road rage is not only in the western world but also here.
however i have never got mugged by the holy wallah s
here in Nagaland we have a funny situation if a non local is on the road and he gets hit from the behind by a vehicle of a local, guess what? its the fault of the non local and he would have to pay up. Even it was not his fault, this makes my blood boil.

For the benefit of non-Northerners, what is kanwar and this whole kanwariya issue? We (at least me) in Mumbai had never heard about it until a day or so ago when some politician/minister was moaning about the traffic issue due to the kanwariya hullabaloo.
One the very few occassions I have been in (New) Delhi, around the diplomatic/Government areas I have found traffic to be so much better than Mumbai. But I have heard from locals that I ain't seen nothing yet.

Kanwar: During the month of "Shravan" the devout are supposed to walk down all the way to Haridwar, take a dip in the Ganges and then carry back holy water from the Ganges on their shoulders using a two pots tied to either end of a stick. This water has to be brought back to their town Shiv Temple before Shiv Raatri and then used on Shiv Raatri in the temple.amk";p="48476 wrote: For the benefit of non-Northerners, what is kanwar and this whole kanwariya issue? Though it is an age old tradition, it only gained prominence in the last 10-15 years, especially after our dear Late Mr. Gulshan Kumar (may he rest in peace) launched a bhajan album called "Chal Kanwariya", re-educating people about this somewhat forgotten way to cleanse your soul and wash off your sins! Ever since then, if you live in the UP/Haryan/Delhi belt, it has been a common sight to see highways closed for a fortnight, road side Pandaals for rest and recreation and free food etc. for these people.
But in recent years, it has become a very serious issue for some people and yes, there are regular road blocks, fights and riots in especially the Meerut/Muzaffarnagar areas in UP where on ocassion these people have been involved in road accidents and cases of random violence and rowdyism.
Hope that sheds some light on the Kanwar issue for the un-initiated.

Worship is a personal thing, or at least it should be... these chappies are mostly driven not by piety but by a desire to have a "good time" - unfortunately at the expense of everyone else!HSharief";p="48583 wrote: If they're going for a good cause then why not be good boys/girls on the way over and back.
I very much doubt if their overriding driver is "going for a good cause"
