Rapists

Posts that don't fit into any other category. If it's anything to do with guns, it probably doesn't belong here!

Do you really believe that more stringent laws will deter criminals? Even when death is the punishment for a crime, criminals still commit it. Laws,, unfortunately, do not change a criminal's behaviour.

1. A quick and timely completion to the case.
2. Identity of the victim to be protected.
3. Punishment commensurate with the crime, eliciting the severest punishments under the countries laws.

Educating children about respecting women, sexual ed classes etc are important.
The police needs to be sensitized, etc

End if the day, changing the mindset of the people right from school and having harsh, timely and effective punishment is required.
Punishment alone will not solve the situation and neither will education.

If we degrade ourselves to the levels of the perpetrators of crime, how are we any better and where does it end?

Well sir,

In Saudi Arabia’s legal system, judges have wide discretion in punishing a criminal, rules of evidence are shaky and sometimes no defense lawyers are present. The result, critics say, are sentences left to the whim of judges. These include lashes, be heading, stoning etc...We already have parallel judiciary running in few states in form of Khap Panchayats etc...
What do you want us to do...stone these rapist to death...or as someone mentioned "Honey over the testicles and made to sit on an anthill....." Do you think this will solve the problem? Do you think rape doesnt occur in Saudi?

No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment", appear in Article Five of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/217, December 10, 1948
There is a reason behind above mentioned declaration...

Are you saying there is a solution to rape?

In a society, where in a large number of cases the girl child is considered a curse, we need to start deeper and at a more fundamental level. Imagine you, as a male child, being made to feel superior to your sister by your own parents and rest of the family. Won't you grow up with a deep-seated feeling that women are somehow inferior, to be used and abused as per your whims? I have seen highly educated familes (with PhDs, and all!!) reserving the chicken leg piece for the son, while the daughters are given the neck pieces.

Can't emphasise the importance of sex ed., however much the feelings against it! We need to change the concept of "manly" and "honour". A real man respects women (even women of errr.... easy virtue). Your honour lies in welcoming your son-in-law of a different caste / religion into your home, not in killing him!

But of course, these changes will take a long long time. In the meantime, would arming the women help?? Of course with 5 year old little girls, you can't even have that as a solution!!
Cheers!

India is a far way off from getting rid of the burden of caste.
We are exclusionists at heart and like our little groups, where we feel superior to everybody else.
Therein lies the seed for trouble, as evinced by newspaper reports, where uppercaste men raped lower caste women, or intercaste marriages were annuled at best, the groomm and bride killed at worst etc etc.
