Mack Old Chap,
How about gifting me a pack. I'll give it a twirl too.
At 80 a day, you must resemble a Birmingham Factory Chimney

Done! If I decide to stick with it, I will have to order a spare e-cig or two and quite a few cartomisers.
Will let you know when it gets here.
I wonder how many Brum factories are still operational.
BTW, 80 per day happens sometimes. Just saying, before you start another poll. ROTFL

They used to hit an even hundred at submission time during my college days.

I live on cigs and tea and usually just one meal a day (dinner) and still end up resembling Porky The Pig.

During my fresher year at M.I.T. (Manipal), I did a four full day stint without food or sleep during submission time because going to the canteen could result in a senior taking me to his room to do his work. No tea either, just water from the bogs. I do this quite often (not four day stints) because once I start working I don't like to quit until the job's done. Gives me more time to play later on.

Now you know why I did not post on that "what's your exercise routine" thread.
Wowwww !!! 80 a day+ Tea , no interim meals. You are like SharukhKhan in Jab Tak Hain Jaan  trying to get your self killed  All the Best with kicking the habit Mack !!!

Skyman you should be wearing a gas mask when around your Gurudev !!!!

But you should get your self a through medical..100 a day since college !! I started smoking only after 30-31

I did not jest when i said my lifespan has diminished hanging around him.As good as he is, learning from him entails the equivalent of sitting a foot away from the exhaust of an old lorry chugging up a hill. :(

I was greatly tempted to curse and swear at the stream of smoke, sometimes mercifully directed toward the window when it was apparent i had a prolonged asthma attack ROTFL ROTFL .

Price to pay for the knowledge i guess.

I quit Cold Turkey, on June 7, 2010.

I started with the occasional smoke...graduated to 5...then suddenly it was a pack of 10...and gradually, I reached the handsome figure of 30+ everyday.

And on the first day of my quit, at about 4pm, I was ready to light up and trash my resolve. There is no experience more pleasurable that a good smoke....especially after starving for a puff the whole day. And I had been smoking for almost 18 years, so, it was easy to light up and inhale the goodness.

For some strange reason, I googled 'quit smoking' ....and found Joel Spitzer. He has a very interesting site http://www.whyquit.org

Joel has this bag of tricks to help you quit Cold Turkey. One of the most helpful tools are short videos that you can watch everyday...from day 1 of the quit to day 7 of the quit and beyond. In these videos he explains what is happening to you during your quit at that stage and how to overcome the urge. Small steps, great tips and insights.

And over the next two weeks, I maintained my quit, watched his day by day quit videos and I was able to quit. Now, its not necessary that this works for you. Its a very personal thing. However, I have been able to quit succesfully and I dont think it would have been possible without Joel Spitzer, his insights and his videos.

Here is a link on Joel
http://whyquit.com/joel/whyquitbio.htm

And here is a link to his day by day cessation videos that helped me quit
http://whyquit.com/joel/dayzero.htm

Mack and all the others who are attempting a Quit....Keep up the resolve :)

Well, I am a 7-8 per day ciggy man myself and like Moin, I started around 31 myself. Slingshot, thanks for posting the info, will go through it and hopefully contribute to this thread. Which is perhaps one of the most useful threads I have come across.

Mack The Knife Baba,
Looking forward to your gift.

No problem sending you one but it may do more harm than good, considering you hardly smoke.

I could be wrong but a 7 to 8 cigs/day person should be able to stop at whim. If you are finding it difficult, I'll send you some stuff before the e-cig arrives.

Also, I am going to go through Joel's video and try doing it cold turkey. That makes far more sense to me.

Update:

After the battery was charged last night, I hardly 'smoked' before turning in. This morning, took a few puffs between 0600 and 0830 and the battery lost it's charge. It's charging now and if it again discharges quickly, it's Hello ITC! Bummer!

Mack,
Whether its 80 or 8, it doesnt make much of a difference, stopping it requires the same commitment. I tried rationing it, it works to say about 4 a day, then somehow pops up like a buoyant balloon to the same level.
Yeah, I am going to read the Cold Turkey lessons too...
Hope others join in as well.

Moin,
Old boy, jump onto the bandwagon, others too are most welcome.

Regards

But then, folks, I gave up my Single malt, two years ago. Now not even a drop of wine, Naw, not een the lovely cool swig of cold King Fisher to beat the summer. Try to make do with stupid nimbupani! Try getting high on that...

Gave up non vegetarian a year ago, gone are Dum Biryani, Nargisi Mutton, Cold Meat, Rogan Josh, Haldi Fish.....

Gave up bloody eggs too, gone are my Alaskan Omlettes, Fried eggs sizzling and swaying a la Helen on my breakfast plate with Bacon, Ham, Sausages, Salami doing the side act.......

Now we are seriously thinking of quitting smoking...... :banghead:

Nowadays, its a dilemma, when guests arrive... what to cook, all of them were used to Shahi stuff, now its pure veg. Am left with nothing more to do but watch that fellow, whatshisname? dishing out veggy recipies on Zee. No wonder people have stopped coming, and I thought it was my charming personality, now I know different. At least then, I was winsome with my cooking.

hvj1, there is a link on quitting by rationing from Joel that I am adding below. It really made me sit up and understand what was happening to me when I quit one cigarette at a time as opposed to Cold Turkey.
