After all the sadness has left us,

After all the talk of reforms have echoed away,

This menace which haunts our society

Will again rear its ugly head.

Our Constitution along with the Arms Act has provisions for every law abiding lady of our country to arm herself.

And if she chooses to do so, and train herself to use her weapon,

Then she will be able to stop such crimes BEFORE they happen.

It will take many many years before our society will change or get deterred by stringent laws,

Till then this technology of the 1800s

The Firearm

Is what will help prevent such crimes.

Hey Couragies Soul, I am too small to say RIP,

You fought with MONSTERS.

You were needed here with us as a woman, as a daughter, as a sister, as a mother and most importantly as a HUMAN BEING.

But, you will be always with us afterall we also have a soul.

I feel ashamed, those MONSTERS are also called as men.

Regards.

I was watching the TV vaguely late evening yesterday when suddenly, the news flash came up on the French news channel BFM TV. (This event is being discussed on the French TVs since quite a few days now... ). I was stunned, shocked and a sense of utter shame/disgust/anger crept in me ... How can I expect her soul to rest in peace? It is perhaps time to descend on the streets...

I just read this http://www.hindustantimes.com/News-Feed ... 82557.aspx

Is it possible in some way to have an amendment made to existing law that would allow,in exceptional cases, for the perpetrator to be stripped off the right to be tried as a juvenile and instead be tried as an adult?

How about amending the law to make it possible for the state to make an application to a specially constituted bench of three (3) judges of the concerned High Court to grant this exemption due to the exceptional nature of the case ?

My heart is full of sadness for this poor girl and her family , and I pray for her and her family .

And I hope the perpetrators feel the pain and terror they inflicted before their deaths !

As you have probably noticed by now; your personal security is up to you.
The Government can't protect you, the Police can't protect you. So either one takes the responsibility for one's own safety or one pays the price.
Therefore I have to agree with skeetshot below:
skeetshot wrote:Our Constitution along with the Arms Act has provisions for every law abiding lady of our country to arm herself.

And if she chooses to do so, and train herself to use her weapon,

Then she will be able to stop such crimes BEFORE they happen.
As usual there will be a lot of political noise and some useless law that doesn't address the problem will get passed. None of this will make any woman safer.
The only correct answer is to make sure the woman can protect herself.

Please read this blog post from Oleg. Not surprisingly, it covers some of what we are discussing here.
Often in home defense episodes, people ask 911 dispatchers for permission to use effective means of self-defense. “Mother, may I please, please save my life by fighting those who’d murder me?” I would guess this stems from being unsure of own right to use deadly force in self-defense. This is precisely why handgun courses usually cover the legalities of self-defense. The decision to fight with all you’ve got should be made long before the emergency happens.

Many movies promote the idea that most people just can’t bring themselves to resist criminals. Just as a grease fire in the kitchen has to be handled soonest with the use of a fire extinguisher, so does criminal aggression must be handled at once with the most effective measures available. Being defenders, lawful people always begin behind the reaction curve and only prior what-if planning allows them to catch up with the aggressors and beat them at their own game.

A lawful, peaceful person should not be apologetic about doing in a criminal aggressor. Human life is worth defending. Life of a home invader or a mugger or a rapist has negative worth and continues at the sufferance of the real humans. And it’s quite all right to treat violent criminals as less than human — they aren’t being stereotyped for some common congenital trait (such as ethnicity or appearance) but treated according to their immediate unlawful actions. Wanton initiation of aggression is a very certain denial of humanity.

Just as a great potential dinner may have to be ruined on a moment’s notice if the oil in your frying pan flashes, a potentially good human who just happens to be a murderous thug at present has to be stopped. The stopping process may ruin the critter but that’s his problem, not yours. A couple of years ago, one of my friends was grabbed by two older men right off the street in Oakland. They dragged her towards a construction site, she managed to slice one of them with a knife and the attackers took off, presumably for the nearest hospital. Whether the wounded rapist lived or died is not important, the important thing is that she escaped. Fortunately, her sense of self-worth is sufficient to ward off any second-guessing or misdirected guilt. My friend is quite comfortable with the outcome of that encounter and that’s how it should be.

Save your pity and consideration for the humans in your life. Goblins masquerading as humans do not deserve it. Know how to protect yourself and be willing to apply that knowledge if necessary. And don’t think that you have to request official permission to protect yourself.

Dear Devi,

I am too shocked for words. Having grown up in an area of Mumbai once called Shaitan Chowki, where any girl could walk unmolested even at night, my angst consumes me from within. I feel terribly impotent for I know not what any other girl would have to face tonight or tomorrow or any time in future. I can only react but I can not protect proactively. I seek your forgiveness and from those who silently suffer their loss of dignity and personal and natural independence. I seek your mercy for any inadvertent action on my part that might have let person with name like Ram Singh behave, neither like Ram nor a Singh, but a haraami and a wolf. I seek clemency from you and those like you under the promise that I shall support every measure to put an end to this menace.

Dear hvji, Thank you for this thread.

Regards,
A.

Is it possible to run some kind of ad campaign or a few you tube videos at least? We from IFG could maybe make a few posters/Videos and circulate them around to get people thinking.

We could for instance show how a gun is the fastest means of defense by showing a scenario where pepper spray, keychains and all that junk fail to stop a perp and a gun does.
I would rather hit my target gently than miss hard.

Bless her brave soul as some 12 year old girls said poignantly " at least people know about your rape"...hopefully her sacrifice doesnt go in vain....although dice is loaded against fairer sex in India and the rulers are so disconnected from reality and billions are too busy eking a livelihood
