Seeing your handwriting and Kshitij's quips on handwriting and Doctors, makes me wonder why I ever joined this discussion! When I write with a ball pen, people who do not know me well, suddenly go all respectful and address me as "daktar sahab"!!

I, however, knew a doctor with really awesome handwriting. He was a very senior gentleman in my hometown, now deceased. Apart from excellent handwriting (my first view of a Mont Blanc), he also had 2 FRCS degrees from UK, smoked a pipe, lived in a colonial bungalow and had 6 or 8 dogs, so must have been an exception. I seem to remember that he also used to "go out" with a gun for sport.

Mack, Kshitij...... man-oh-man, I'd have offerred my right arm for handwriting like yours, except that without my right hand, I wouldn't be able to write! Mack, your Dad is being very strict, but then, I am sure without that strictness, you wouldn't have this wonderful hand!

I did take some pics of my writing, but now I gotta delete them.
Cheers!

EssDee

SD,
Bro hope you didnt delete those images yet, I'd like to see them. Specially after you mentioned the mix and match of different scripts to make yours, i'd really like to see that. Also, share the ball point writing :D

sa_ali, my cleaning and maintenance supplies are literally a snowflake on the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There is a lot of specialist equipment around for the die hard fountain pen restorers.

essdee'72: Let us be the judge of your handwriting. However, that aside, I think you missed your calling. You should think of writing humour. One of my client's, who also happens to be a good friend, has lovely handwriting. He claims to have had atrocious handwriting but one school summer vacation, he decided to rectify that and he did. I'd like to see that calligraphy script of yours as well.

Kshitij, lovely hand and I'll post more on the same lines.

Let's have a handwriting competition as of this post and until the end of this year. This comp is only for normal daily handwriting and not calligraphy or any of the more fanciful scripts that are written slowly and deliberately. We can always have a separate comp for that, should the thread still be active at a later date. You may use a fountain pen, ballpoint, roller ball or pencil.

To encourage improvement, one may post any number of entries. The winner gets a fountain pen from me.

The Mods will be the jury and I am excluded from the comp, not that I stand a chance of winning. I will participate but not as a competitor.

Game on?

I have been using a LAMY Safari matt black for the last few years. Bought it for 935 bucks. I got fed of of the expensive cartriges and paid a little more for a convertor. Now i use Bic royal blue ink.

I think the safari is the "cheapest costly pen" one can buy.

Despite being around costlier Montblanks, people notice this more and it surely is a converstion starter (except that the pen comes out after all useful conversation is over)

Oi, Diski! What a surprise! I like my Safaris and the matt black, most of all. Been using them since the early 1980s.

Don't you mean Bril Royal Blue? If not, I had no idea Bic made fountain pen inks.

One of the cheapest costly pens, are hand made Indian ebonite pens, even after adding German steel nibs (JoWo, Bock or Schmidt) and a Schmidt K5 convertor. This is provided they are bought in India.

Indian fountain pens are currently seeing a slight resurgance, thanks to a fairly good overseas demand for ebonite and acrylic fountain pens.

Agreed. I still remember coming last in the competition we had!!! Those were the days. Almost 6 years since I met any of you guys.

Also....Just because I don't reply, doesn't mean I don't read the forum.

honestly most of the stuff is getting repeated again and again.

Top 3:
Do I need license for Airgun
Is 9mm PB
Can I (or how to) apply for licence

Yes Bril. or Chelpak which ever I get at the shop. One bottle lasts almost a year though. We hardly write letters these days.

Here is an opportunity to write instead of type.

Write your post, take a pic and add it to this topic.

Don't try it on other posts though. :D

Bril Royal Blue is very good ink and I do use it now and then. What's more, it's made in Namma Bengaluru! LOL.

Mack,
I look forward to having that pen soon
Jokes aside, it would a fun thing to do, so game on!
Also, since the mods are judging, i would suggest you participate too. If you win, it would be my pleasure to add one more pen to your collection

LOL. And why not! I just hope there are a few members who actually make you earn it. Remember, the old 'samples' don't count.

I have already ordered the prize.

Details at http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum ... group-buy/
and http://asapens.in/eshop/asa-nauka-eboni ... dia-online

Four of these have been ordered. The Polished Black (w/ clip) and Dark Brown (w/o clip) are definitely mine. Will decide which to give away between the Forest Green Black Rippled (w/o clip) and the Bluish Black Rippled (w/o clip) after they arrive. It will most probably be the Green-Black Rippled as I already have another fountain pen in that finish. The pens will have a screw-in Schmidt nib unit and Schmidt K5 convertor. Since the nib units are interchangeable, the winner will have the option of choosing a Schmidt nib in fine, medium or broad. I have opted for clipless as these are large fountain pens and are basically desk pens. I will post pics of the actual pens after I receive them

Thanks for the offer but I would rather not change the format. However, you could donate a fountain pen for the member who comes in second.

Hi there!
Here's something I had written a few years ago, which I chanced upon a little while ago.
While we are on the subject of pens & writing, I thought it worth sharing with you all....
A bit providential though :D

THOSE WERE THE DAYS

Those were the days I remember fondly
When writing meant putting pen to paper,
A conveyance through contact achieved
With the slope of the nib & fluidity of ink.

The magnanimity of dotting those i
And the gracious stroking of the t,
While the slant bespoke of character
The flourishes asserted individuality.

Be it a missive or grand memorandum
The author was the architect supreme,
Today I sit and poke a convention of keys
An assortment spread without empathy.

Enter -Shift – Control - Home and Delete
Waiting to be pressed with purpose or deceit,
If technology could kill inspiration this is it
Bring me back those days with pen & ink replete!

Briha
