Johnny Depp - The last "real" hero in Hollywood?
One often reads about various Hollywood stars lending their star power to anti-gun causes, so it was a like a breath of fresh air to read the following tid bit about Johnny Depp:
Johnny Depp wants to teach his kids to handle guns
Johnny Depp is keen on teaching his children to handle guns.
The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star, who learnt shooting at the age of six in Kentucky where he grew up, wants to pass on his experience to his kids.
"We would just go out and line up a bunch of cans and shoot with rifles, handguns and at times, submachine guns," the Daily Star quoted him as saying.
"When I was a kid it was a controlled atmosphere, we weren't shooting at humans - we were shooting at cans and bottles mostly. I will most certainly take my kids out for target practice," he added.
After reading this, Mr. Depp has certainly moved up several notches in my estimation - he makes for a good contrast to Mr. Daniel Craig and his anti-gun hypocrisy!
Cheers!

Great story! This certainly sounds normal to me -- it's how I raised my kids.

Anyone here read Shantaram? I believe he's supposed to be playing the lead role.

Yes, as Abhijeet rightly said, A Real life Hero. He is a great artist. He is one guy who walks the walk. His stocks are definitely way up there in my books.
Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Yes, assuming you are refering to G.D. Roberts' book.BJL wrote:Anyone here read Shantaram? I believe he's supposed to be playing the lead role.
The story has 'Oscar Winner' stamped all over it, so here's hoping they stay true to the original.

Nice to know that he used to shoot. Normally, Kentucky folks have been famed for their long rifle work.

Niiiice Depps the man, been a fan since long, Donnie Brasco, Edward Scissorhands and lately Pirates of the Caribbean. Always felt that there was more to the man, now that this angle comes up. It just reinforces/justifies the adulation I heap on him(to me that is).
