What car to buy??
Hi,
I have been wanting to change my car .Have a ZEN right now. Love the car but since its low find it uncomfortable.Have taken a look at the new i10, Zen Estilo, U-VA , Hyundai getz .If anyone is using these particular models would love to hear your comments. The car is used for 40 kms a day (office & Back)There are the newer options like Swift Desire etc but parking space is a major constraint near my office . So mileage and car size are of prime importance.

My dads got hyndai santro and hes one happy customer of hyundai. From you de.scription of your needs, i will give my 10 cents to hyundai getz or i10. Its compact yet it gets reasonable mileage and it reliable enough to take u anywhere..

If you are OK with a diesel car, then do consider the Swift diesel - it comes with a very frugal Fiat diesel engine and actually has better pick up than the petrol version of the same car!
There is also a new version of the Alto coming out next month, AFAIK it should be in the 3-4 L price range, you can check out the team-bhp forum for more details/ advice. In fact if you can wait for a while, there's a whole slew of new small cars (of various brands) that are going to hit the market - most launches are expected by/ around Diwali time.
Cheers!

Re: What car to buy??
hi AC,
i am been using the swift diesel vdi for the last 1 year and i found it really good, the engine is awesome and very refined and low nvh (cannot compare with other diesel units) with a turbo and intercooler with a torque of 190nm ,you must consider a test drive for the same,in case if you drive on your own you would love this car.
It seems now the newer swifts diesels have got an integrated dashbord music system and climate control too like the dezire and the SX4.
but its boot is smallest in the segment.Similar engine is in the new tata indica and the fial palio diesel but they both lack the slick gearshifter in the swift.
cheers sanjiv
nb-edit-missed the milage front-oh yes its considerable it clocks 18 generally in city and i dont remember if i had ever switched off the aircon.on the highways its around20-21 depending on your driving

I partially agree with Abhijeet...
One thing I would like to mention is that the Diesel versions cost an easy 60-70K more. therefore, considering the actual mileage saved, it would be around 1 rupeee/km (Petrol gives about 17kmpl, and deisel about 14kmpl. Averaging the costs, the saving would be around 1 rupee /km)
Therefore, actual savings on a diesel car would only be after around 60-70K kms has been run, considering the additional MRP of Diesel engines.
Personally, I dont use the A/C much and am extremely happy with my Alto, which gives atleast 17kmpl, easy to handle/park/etc.
Stay away from Alto if you want A/C, which is think is pretty much required in Delhi. The car loses power like crazy when the A/C is on.
Pick up an i10/Estilo if you must; they have more refined and powerful engines.
My friend had the new Chevrolet and is not happy with it. Low mileage is the main prob
Or.. wait for the new menu an take a better shot

Re: What car to buy??
Hi ,
Looking at the needs ,i.e small size(for ease of parking). obviously good economy ... and i guess good resale value as well.Considering all this would ask you to go for a maruti suzuki wagon R . or hyundai i10 if you prefer investing in something newer. Both would be around 3.5 L approx (however the economy would be better on the suzuki). in case you have your mind set on a diseal ,and can accomodate a budget of upto 5 lakhs Swift is the car to go for . The funny thing being that three popular diseal cars ,namely Swift,Palio and last but not the least the new indica have the same Fiat engine...

Mr. A.C.
i just got me self a Ford Ikon, i do agree it's not a small car but it works fine for me..
mileage is fine, it gives me about 12-13 km/l (air conditioner on in the morning only, evening prefer no a.c.) considering the fact that my idling is a little on the higher side (that servicing chap hasn't come yet). i've never really been a fan of this car but somehow my dad liked it so he bought me one without asking for my opinion. It's a second hand car and costed me around 2L. if Ford interests you, try going in for the ford fusion, i believe they got some amazing mileage (they advertise so)...
My two cents, please don't follow them.
crosscheck em yourself..
Cheers

i bought the Swift Dzire on June 3rd. have completed 5300Kms already.. Its reallllllly good. 13-15 mileage in Bangalore city and 21.4 kmpl on a long trip to coorg.
My 88paise of advice:
go for the palio 1.3 multijet.. same engine as the swift, but better handling.moreover waiting time is 10-15 days as compared to the swifts 6 months. (i got mine through "influence" in 22 days of booking )
diskaon. ( i guess i should have written Vroommmm)

The Spark. Think it gives him below 13 in city.art_collector";p="52610 wrote: Hi TenX,

WagonR is an excellent car, now comes with duel fuel. Very sturdy, great suspension and a very reliable engine. Gives a wee bit lesser mileage than an Alto or i10, but surely more road worthy. I test-drove the new Estilo, and liked it pretty much too. Actually, you should just take a day off and test drive all these cars.. after all, it a matter of lakhs in investmentmadmax";p="52608 wrote: Hi ,
