The caption says "If that sword were really sharp, that tomato wouldn't have fallen."
But I think that the thickness of the blade is also crucial in ensuring that the two sliced parts are not seperated much.

The sword couldn't be sharper and the swordsman is very skilled. I doubt that anything less than a diffrently designed blade could stop the tomato from falling.
