4x4 modifications for disabled

Post by jonahpach » Sun Sep 09, 2007 9:53 pm

Hello guys

This is an SOS for a paraplegic army friend of mine (injured in action) who is interested in modification/kits for a gypsy or maruti car.

He has had full recovery of arms and upper body with partial movement of feet. Since mobility is a big factor in our hill state, he needs a modified 4 wheeler. I do recall that there was somebody down south (hyderabad/bangalore??) modifying/making kits for the disabled.

Can someone identify this person and give me his contact details?? would be much appreciated..

This is a serious SOS so no wise cracks here please..

Will ask around, Jonah.

P.S.: Just to confirm, this 'kit' would need to have automatic transmission and hand operated brake (other than handbrake) and accelerator?

Just a thought but drop Asif a line as he may know of a company that makes such kits / modifications.

There was a program on one of the news channels about a person who does these, customized as per individual requirements. Will try to trace it.

Maruti used to make them on order till a few yrs ago,did see a few AT variants of the 800,though in this case

it needs more than just a Auto transmission.

Give me a day or two will get back to you will spk to a some folks at Maruti.

Hi Jonah,

Spoke to Rajesh, he mentioned the cost of the kit for hand operated clutch, brake & accelerator ( brake & accelerator is push pull type) is inr 6,000. If his people have to travel to install this kit that will be a extra charge.

Where is the vehicle that has to be fitted? is it a maruti car or gypsy?

His contact nos are 0141 234 5907 r, 0141 233 6495 workshop, 94140 70083 mobile.

hope this helps

regards

Rajesh just mentioned that he has installed over 700 kits for the disabled.
He has given me the contact nos of a few people who these kits have been installed for. 2 of them are army officers who were injured in aciton. I was told one of them entered a record book for endurance driving.

If you wish I could send you these gentelman contact nos by PM.
