Shiv Sena distributes knives to women for 'protection'

Posts that don't fit into any other category. If it's anything to do with guns, it probably doesn't belong here!

Agree with you, XL. Most of the public (as in outside the gun fraternity) responses to the Delhi tragedy has been to clamour for more cops. E.g. the suggestion by the top cop (Commissioner) of Thane for ladies to carry chilli powder was widely (and stridently) criticised, esp. by ladies. Hence, any move to get the DIY mentality into self defense (as well as many other things) would be ultimately beneficial for the individual women and for the country as a whole.

Actually, being basically a feudal-colonial society (with a pseudo-democracy forced on us) we are used to "someone" doing things for us. How many Indian men, for example, can repair a switchboard? Even qualified electrical engineers? (many of us on this forum can and do, but then guns, knives, outdoors, and DIY usually go together, for some reason). Unlike, say the US, where they have a (relatively recent) history of "taming" the land, doing things themselves, hence a strong DIY as well as self-defence mentality.
Cheers!

Fortunately am not married yet! But yes, I remember when my sister, following a heated up argument, lifted a heavy wooden chair cleanly off the ground. She could barely move the chair normally.

Have you ever tried catching a cat in a gunny bag with the escape routes closed in a room with your both the hands bandagged with a terkish towel ? I have tried . Both were half - grown. But the female one was ferocious in her objection in compasion to its male brother.
