A friend had assumed, for no particular good reason, that Sikhs in the Indian Army - both pre and post independence - wore black turbans however in a recent conversation with a former Indian Army Officer the old gent mentioned that his Sikh guards wore orange turbans.
Could anyone enlighten me as to the actual situation ? ( I ought to point out that the elderly gentleman concerned is not 100 % reliable in his memories........... )

Grumps, it depends on the regiment they are serving in, not on their religion.The Sikh light infantry wears the orange turban where as those in Artillery, Pioneers,EME etc,wear the navy blue.The Mechanised infantry and the tank cavalry use the black.
