Horror in Norway

Post by xl_target » Sat Jul 23, 2011 10:23 am

Once again a lone gunman kills innocent unarmed and defenseless civilians. Could a single civilian with a permit to carry have stopped this madman? Would this madman have gone on a rampage if he knew that there were law abiding permit holders (who carried concealed weapons) present? One doesn't know the answers to those questions.
I'm sure there will be calls for tougher gun control regulations after this but it won't prevent the next tragedy.

I wonder how quickly this guy would have been stopped in Israel, where it is routine for people to be armed? Our condolences and thoughts are with the people of Norway.
OSLO, Norway (AP) — A Norwegian who dressed as a police officer to gun down summer campers killed at least 80 people at an island retreat, horrified police said early Saturday. It took investigators several hours to begin the realize the full scope of Friday's massacre, which followed an explosion in nearby Oslo that killed seven and that police say was set off by the same suspect.

VERY UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT.. , no doubt
I am so sad to hear that news last night on tv.

I Think it is the fault of security force & police....
How can a man kill 80 people with his gun...
This is a big tragedy, the gov should investigate this & found the original truth.. :deadhorse:

i read that Norway have strict gun laws. What use those laws came to; a criminal with intention to kill will most probably find his way. What these laws cannot provide is defense to law abiding citizens. Surely if a permit holder was among the 700, these lives could have been saved or at least the damage would have been much less.

As I mentioned, here is CNN's take on the incident, already calling for more gun control. It really makes me mad when people take advantage of a tragedy to push their political objectives.
<sarcasm>Really? Automatic weapons are increasingly available? Please tell me where so i can get one too. </sarcasm>
The increasing availability of automatic weapons makes mass killing easier, even by a single individual....firearms are increasingly a weapon of choice for terrorists; reasonable restrictions on the sale and distribution of automatic weapons make sense

All these laws have done is make their citizens unable to protect themselves. Apparently Norway doesn't issue CCW licences.

It took the police 90 minutes to respond to the shooting incident.

I would like to quote the post of one "IA Farmboy" on gunrightsmedia.com
He summed up what a lot of people think:
What lesson is there to learn? I propose the lesson is that there is evil in this world and, as hard as we may try, we cannot legislate it away. I believe that the more people that realize this the easier it will be to reach a free society. I'm not saying we can achieve perfection but by respecting the liberties of the individual we can achieve a more perfect community, establish justice, ensure tranquility, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our descendents. I read something like that somewhere, just not sure where.

The more restrictions we place on personal liberty the more the thugs and governments in this world can take advantage of this and cause us greater harm. Taken to an extreme the distinction between the thugs and the government becomes irrelevant. This person (or group) was allowed to produce such death and destruction precisely because the government had little respect for the lives of the individual. The thug, sharing this disrespect for life, liberty, and property, took advantage of this.

The tragedy is not that a mad man found the means to commit mass murder but that his victims had no means of defending themselves.

well, all authorities think alike.once a incident happens like this, there is stricter gun control.
i wish the authorities think the way we do,arm the civilians to defend themselves.
i hope the lawmakers get into a situation like this!!

A tragic incident like that always raises another question. How many would have been killed if the intended victims had rushed the gunman at the first shot?
