Here we go again - one more nail in the coffin.

BANGALORE: Police investigating the injury sustained by pushcart vendor Gurunath, 20, last Friday said it was caused by a 'stray pellet that escaped from an airgun'.

Gurunath was pushing household wares in Kanakanagar area on Manorayanapalya Main Road when he heard a muffled noise around 10am and soon after found blood oozing from his left shoulder.

"We're not dismissing it as a stray incident. We're checking every nook and corner of the area. Though anyone can own an airgun, he can't shoot indiscriminately and endanger others' lives" said deputy commissioner of police (north division) HS Revanna.

He said police are awaiting the report of ballistic experts at the Forensic Sciences Laboratory at Madiwala. "It will conclusively tell us the type of weapon used," he said.

Doctors treating Gurunath at Victoria Hospital said he has been discharged.
