That was your prefix
proud poachers/people ??
Will revert to my Wren and Martin to see how I should understand your statement, not the media hype.
Thanks for taking the pains to refer to Wren and Martin, if you don't get an answer there, try reading the article once again, not getting carried away by MY so called "sensational" headline. The teaser was to reflect the content of the article. It is evident, you (and you too Jonah? ) are carried away by the headline and taking up the defense of tribes,
under and assumption someone is trying to point at them. Once again, I am quoting a sentence from the article:
Now, if you read my so called "sensational" headline, it would convey the meaning, in-line with what has been conveyed in the article. Perhaps, I should add a "List of Symbols" and explain "/ is used in place of or". If it still can not make it sense to you, then, I am sorry, there's nothing more to be said or done about it. I have made my intent clear in my previous post itself. What I find is only equivocation being done here, picking up the headline, rather than the article itself. Well, it has to be media, some media or the other to report such an incident. If the media is to be viewed with a "pinch of salt" then anything or anyone else can also be viewed with the pinch of salt!!!IT is still not clear whether the poachers took away the flesh and bones, or it is done by some local culprits just for meat.
Alright, if the word "local culprits" made you all to hold the line of defense, then may I ask you something? Is it justified, if you all perceive the local culprits to be the tribal people?
It would, in broad sense mean anyone, stealthy, inside the premise of the incident. Simple, as you say, even with the syllogisms applied. So, first of all, my point was, there was no necessity to bring in the tribes in picture, which you both actually did. Now, did I read persecution complex paranoia somewhere in your post ????? makes a lot sense to me.
Of course not, the dead horse sign is not an offense, and of course yes, it is permissible. I never called it or took it offensive too. However, what I wanted to point out was, was it required to be used in this context?eljefe wrote: Dead horse icon -sign of offense? should we ask IFG to please remove this icon? in the interest of political correctness.
Damn, when Airguns are outlawed, can the dead horse icons be far behind?
Nobody is even questioning about it. Again, why bring PETA in the pic? Another wonderful imaginative initiative. To a protein starved populace, meat is meat.PETA comes no where in the pic.
Absolutely agree, with this point.eljefe wrote: Some cretin sitting in an ac office in Delhi decides; take away their bows and arrows-sure shots way to top poaching.Makes a lot of sense to me...
Unnecessary pun, totally irrelevant to the topic under discussion, but yes, not a problem for me. Thanks for doing the honors.eljefe wrote: While this thread ,and many others of its ilk will take centerstage time and agin, whats being put across is groupism and persecution complex ? subliminal
So, whats reserved comments?
What is a guideline for comments ?
for SRswamy's posts?
for post about poaching?
Right, All rise, the honable post (and poster) on the latest Rhino's death now has center stage...
I had already pointed out the intent and Jonah and me are in agreement where he got misled. Unnecessary efforts to go back to Wren and Martin, but appreciated.
Neither I am in endorsement of the media, nor I am against any of the traditional rights owned by tribes.
One underlying truth -- Tribal or Urban -- it is the HUMAN who poses the utmost danger to many endangered species. Now, if you wish, view this too, with the pinch of salt

Re: A sad saga strikes Kaziranga!!!
Tribals have always been blamed for woes created by the politicia and one does not need to mention the NE as a prime example. We have one example right here in the National Park in Mumbai.
I think the NE part of our country is less know because we never made any attempts to know it in the first place.
The issue of poaching and the various parties involved in the issue is complex to put it mildly.

Must be a lazy fri after noon... whole lot of horsepower going on here.
Naaw, way too much salt for me-and I'll be blamed for the global warming and Antartic cap melt-all that salt you're offering. There is a levantine tradition of bread and salt, would that hold good here?
Yup, Its going to be M/s Wren & Martin after all, precedence any day, over a yellow rag.
Pun? sure, where's the p(h)un otherwise? its supposed to be a debate, and some things are fair in love, war and debate
Sensationalism? no respectable yellow rag worth its S factor would ignore a story like that.
Like, where any firearm AFTER the Boer war is automatically declared a high power firearm by the press/media, whatever. Same same.
So, how come all car owners are not declared competent to drive in Le Mans by virtue of owning a IC engine, but all gun owners get painted as potential killers?
Another very disturbing example- health care nurses who make home visits (US) , are asking the patient- "Any axe murderers, or guns in your house?" thats the real news.I am not spinning a tale.
Same way, an One horned rhino being killed by poachers, is a Pulitzer in waiting to a news starved press.Pederasts, child murders by tantriks,2000 crore scams and female foeticide is so passe, right?
Idea is, why are we following in the path of the unbelievers?
The real truth is there, for those who scratch below the surface.Big names, bigger ramifications.Maybe a 'high power ' politico was visiting the park, and his juvenile mistress wanted to try out the latest acquisition?the 218 mashburn Bee jezail? stone me blind, the rhino died!
Reminds me of a story of a sanctuary in S india, where an elef was declared dead- due to snake bite- the snake had a 500 cal tongue, eh?
therein lies the twixt, forget the tale.Tongue totally in cheek

Thanks for being a part of driving force to generate the horse power. Sorry, I'm not aware of the levantine tradition, but I'm aware of a Salvic or Bavarian one. So can't say yet!!

I thought one is free to pick up what interests one. In our country, any such issue, big or small, any time, any day -- including the "Yellow rags" -- has a political background.eljefe wrote: Same way, an One horned rhino being killed by poachers, is a Pulitzer in waiting to a news starved press. Thanks to Kaushal, he has already pointed it out clear in a previous post in the thread. So, no need to "Maybe".

The part about PETA?
Alluding is the term that comes to mind...
ALL such man animal conflicts are a fall out of some politician's vote garnering deals.I have seen illegal aliens brazening it out in the swamps of Bhitar Kanika, and spent time on the road in some remote villages in NE UP distributing snake bite treatment protocols and snake antivenom-The floods in 2007 caused an upsurge of snake bite deaths-12-15 a week. The Govt did nothing, sat on its hands and diddled, the local Dr's and Nursing homes did not want to treat patients-no money, lots of liabilities. The major cause of death? NO Snake antivenom-all of it was exported.
India is the worlds biggest producer.Go figger.
If a buffer zone of say, 20km is created around EVERY national park, where will all the land and vote beneficiaries go?
Veerappan 's black book would probably make the dead sea scrolls look like Tin Tin-tonnes of sandalwood and Ivory sold by ONE man, at international black market prices?
By the time that 'adjective' of a reporter finished with his adjectives, in the Rhino report, the only thing not implicated were the little green men...somebody please ask him if he believes that meat and chicken is got from supermarket shelves?
While some of the PC of your post;Teaser' and, 'conflict of interest' dont really belong to the rough and tumble of IFG, seeing that we're not currently looking at citations...if you read long and hard, and stay here a while, you will see that 'sensational-ist' news like this one, is quickly given the rites. Most people here are crusty realists, fighting a losing battle.Regardless of the seriousness of the issue, the bottom line is-Which politician made how much out of it.
PS-The only teasers I knew until now were:
a. The poor horse brought in to tease the mare before the stallion is brough in for the main job...
b.A 4 meter fishing rod, strong enough to toss a 2kilo chicken as bait for pelagics-last time I used one, with a foot long ,6mm dia hook, Mr Shark took it out like it was a tooth pick.

Re: A sad saga strikes Kaziranga!!!
Well, looks like a yellow rag just wanted a 'Today’s Special' story to pander to the 'armchair conservationists' (A/C's), who wail all to naught and post that, nothing moves when it comes to actual action. Half of these A/C's have never been to the NE and aren’t aware of the demographics of the region, and yet claim to be aficionados . Just saying that one is not pointing a finger at others lifestyles and traditions does not take away from the veiled accusations that are made by such articles. But then, the yellow rag journo 'tribe' also need to earn their daily bread. So, I would let them be, as they are far removed from the actual ground realities.
Just going OT slightly the 'Gaur' or Indian Bison which has been domesticated in several NE states is an in-alienable part of traditional festivals and feasts; and despite what the rags say, the numbers of these magnificent beasts are not 'dwindling'. And why so, because the animal is regarded as a 'Unit of Wealth', it is allowed to roam free in the forest in a semi-domesticated form till it is required for food or barter(yes barter is still very much in vogue, shock...shock...No credit cards... the rags won’t tell us that). This is 'controlled hunting' in real life, and it works. They are fiercely protected, as they are regarded as 'Units of Wealth', which binds them to the local population and keeps them involved.
Apart from the 'rhino-eating' bit, I have seen and heard of several such 'sagas' from my childhood when I grew up in Assam, (Jorhat, Tezpur, Guwahati). Poachers are rampant in Kaziranga, and they cater to the South East Asian, traditional medicine market, but that’s another story.
Anyway this story is just a 'Today’s Special', meant to be whined and droned about and then forgotten by the A/C's. Several Rhino, Tiger, Leopard etc; deaths later, what kind of policy changes has the Forest dept thought of enacting with the Govt in the loop...nada/zilch/none.
Clearly the current policy doesn’t work. Let me ask you srswamy, what would you propose as a solution ??
And just to clear the air, I attacked your post and not you , mate!
EDIT: {Too slow to the trigger, el Bandido, Jefe , let off a salvo already}

Quote srswamy (Yes, in India, animals are being killed for commercial interests. So? In India, ALMOST EVERYTHING is done for COMMERCIAL interest.)
+1 sr swami. Not just in India.
I was speaking with a scientist from the Wildlife Institute of India today. The only educational institute of it's kind in Asia.
and he told me that (illegal) trade in Wildlife stands at Number 2 internationally.
#1 being trade in Arms
and
#3 being trade in Drugs.
This came as a surprise to me.
